Even though the Noblesville Millers collected nine hits to Mt. Vernon’s six, they still fell to the Marauders 8-4 on Friday in the Noblesville Invitational at Dunker Field.
The Millers opened up scoring in the second inning when Drew Niswonger doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the first inning, Noblesville tied things up at one; Jacob Weiler drew a walk to score one run.
After Mt. Vernon scored one run in the top of the sixth, Noblesville answered with one of their own. Mt. Vernon scored one run on a stolen base. The Millers then answered when Kolby Kazmierski drew a walk, scoring one run.
Mt. Vernon took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Dobbins doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs and Swingle singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
Mt. Vernon scored three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by Mt. Vernon was led by Walton and Clotfelter, all driving in runs in the frame.
Clotfelter was on the mound for Mt. Vernon. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.
Ethan Leslie started the game for the Millers. Leslie allowed five hits and seven runs over four and a third innings, striking out seven. Ty Haley threw two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
Noblesville tallied nine hits; Mason Bohland, Dean White, and Niswonger all managed multiple hits for the Millers. Niswonger, White, and Bohland each managed two hits to lead the Millers.
