Avon scored four runs in the seventh inning, but the Noblesville Millers won their season opener 11 – 5 on Tuesday night at Avon.
The big inning for Avon came thanks to a single by Rylan Hollingsworth, a groundout by Madison Pappas, and an error on a ball put in play by Payton Bryant.
The Millers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Mack Harvey doubled to center field and then on a walk, pass ball Gabrielle Stage scored Millers’ first run.
Noblesville tallied five runs in the fifth inning. The Millers’ big bats were led by Carly Motz, Mack Harvey, Chloe Vetter, and Maakena Pohlo, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Lulu Van Beek was in the pitcher’s circle for Noblesville. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Maakena Pohlo had a home run in the fifth inning.
The Millers saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Pohlo and Harvey all managed multiple hits; Pohlo went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Millers in hits. Noblesville stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one; Harvey led the way with three.
Avon collected seven hits on the day. Hollingsworth, Bryant, and Liberty Hendrickson all managed multiple hits for Avon.
