The Noblesville Millers defeated the No. 10 Homestead Spartans 2 – 1 on Saturday morning at Logansport High School to advance to this evening’s Regional Championship in Logansport.
Homestead was the first to get on the board. In the 57th minute, Noblesville senior Kate Bettner committed a handball in the box for an unforced error that led to a penalty kick for the Spartans. Homestead’s Ryann Parrish connected on the PK to give Homestead the 1 – 0 lead.
The score seemed to wake up the Millers. Not even a minute later, but officially in the game’s 58th minute, the Millers put their first dent on the scoreboard. Isabella Griffey took a corner kick for the Millers and passed it immediately to Makenna Maloy who rocketed the ball past the Homestead goalkeeper while the Spartans were getting set for the corner kick.
In the 73rd minute, Maloy sent a corner kick into the box where Kate Bettner headed in the game-winning goal with just under seven and half minutes remaining in the game. The goal was Bettner’s first in her four-year career for the Millers.
With the victory in hand, the Millers (14-0-1) advance to tonight’s Regional Championship game against the Carroll Chargers of Fort Wayne. Carroll advanced after defeating the Harrison Raiders in Penalty Kicks. The game will be played at 7:00 p.m. at Logansport’s football stadium.
