Millers win 21st Girls Soccer Sectional Title on penalty kicks at Westfield

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The No. 7-ranked Noblesville Millers won the IHSAA Class 3A Sectional 9 girls soccer championship Saturday, defeating the No. 3-ranked Westfield Shamrocks 4-3 in a penalty-kick shootout after the teams played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtime periods. Westfield took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute and held it through halftime. Senior Kendall Kramer tied the match for Noblesville in the 44th minute with a goal on a free kick. Neither team scored the rest of regulation or in either overtime period. The Shamrocks kicked first in the shootout. Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Castor saved Westfield’s first and fourth attempts. Seniors Delaney Stone, Kramer and Sophie Hedges converted for the Millers through the first four rounds. With the shootout tied 3-3 following Castor's second save, senior Carmén Fary converted the fifth kick to win it for the Millers. The title is Noblesville’s 21st sectional championship in program history and its ninth in 11 years. It is the Millers’ first sectional title since winning six straight in Sectional 8 from 2019 to 2024. This is Noblesville’s first season in Sectional 9 and the south semi-state after being moved from Sectional 8 in the north. Sectional 9 also includes Carmel, North Central, Pike, Westfield and Zionsville. Richmond replaced Noblesville in Sectional 8. Noblesville (9-3-4) and Pike both received first-round byes before meeting in Wednesday’s semifinal, where the Millers won 9-0 to reach the final. The Millers advance to the regional semifinals and will play Indianapolis Cathedral (12-5-1) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cathedral. The winner advances to the regional championship at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Carmel against the winner of Brownsburg (7-7-4) at Franklin Central (10-9-1).
