Game Recap

The Millers lost a heartbreaker 3-2 to #2 ranked HSE on Monday night in the opening round of the Sectional. The Millers opened the scoring with a finish by Nicolai Andersen on a nifty through ball from Alec Vanyo. HSE tied the game at 1 about 8 minutes later on a nice left-footed finish past a sprawling Miles Atkins in goal. With a minute to go in the first half, Andrew Noel took a free kick from 30 yards out. The HSE goalkeeper went up for the ball but couldn’t hold it cleanly and the ball found the back of the net. The Millers led 2-1 at halftime.

The Millers tried to hold onto their lead after the break but HSE earned a free kick just outside the penalty area with 15 minutes to go. The shot went just over the wall and just under the crossbar to tie the game at 2. It looked like the game was headed for overtime but with under 30 seconds, HSE managed to tap in a ball after a mad scramble in the Miller penalty area to take the lead 3-2. The Millers took one of the top-ranked teams in the state to the brink, leading for a majority of the game, but were unable to finish the job. The Millers finish the season with a record of 7-6-4 and look to continue their upward trend next year.
