Noblesville High School
Hamilton Southeastern High School
The Noblesville Millers Varsity Girls Soccer team won a thriller over the Hamilton Southeastern Royals 3-2 in an exciting game that decided the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Championship.
The Millers simply needed to win this game. A tie or loss would result in Hamilton Southeastern winning the championship and both teams played like they knew what they had to do to win a championship.
Both teams had good looks and chances on goal in the first half, but couldn’t break through. Suddenly, with a little over 33 minutes left in the 2nd half, the floodgates opened and the teams played a half that won’t soon be forgotten.
Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern combined to score 3 goals in a span of 2 minutes and 11 seconds.
The Royals took the first lead of the game with 33:23 remaining in the game on a breakaway by Layla Brown.
92 seconds after the Royals scored, the Millers were fouled in the box by the Royals; senior Abby Martin scored on the ensuing Penalty Kick.
39 seconds after the equalizer, the Royals scored again; taking advantage of a complacent Miller defense off of the kickoff.
The Millers played from behind for the next thirteen and a half minutes until a foul was called against the Royals from 35 yards away from the goal. Carly Hudnall, using the wind to her advantage, launched an untouchable missile into the opposite corner of the goal to tie the game up 2-2.
The score was tied until under 7 minutes to play when Keeley Hoopingarner got the ball and was able to break free of the defense. Hoopingarner drove the ball deep into the box and barely slipped it past the Royals goalkeeper, who was able to slow the ball down. The ball bounced up in the air and eventually crossed the goal line and into the goal to complete the come-from-behind victory.
The HCC Champion Noblesville Millers completed the regular season with a record of 10-2-3 (4-0-2 HCC) and will play the Anderson Indians on Thursday, October 5 in the Semi-Final round of IHSAA Sectional #8 at Hamilton Southeastern High School. The game will follow the first game of the night which starts at 5:30 p.m. and will feature the winners of Tuesday’s opening round games.
